VOLTAIRE
|
Voltaire was a radical, a liberal and anti Christian. Voltaire wrote poems, plays, histories and novels which enlightened the French people. According to his view of natưural religion, nature is the work of God and man is the product of nature. He wanted philosophy to be useful in changing peoples attitudes positively. Voltaire tried to find a middle way between the optimistic and pessimistic views regarding the man's nature. If nature is good, then there is no evil, if there is evil, than nature can not in itself be good.
Voltaire was a voice of reason and criticised religious intolerance. In 1814 a group of ultra-religious people stole Voltaire's remains. His heart, which was removed from his body is in Bibliothecque nationale in Paris.
